Beginner Course

Description:
The San Diego Underwater Hockey Club offers adult lessons for anyone interested in trying out the sport of underwater hockey.

Prerequisites:
Applicants should know how to swim.  Familiarity with fins and snorkel is suggested but not required.  We supply all equipment, including mask, fins, snorkel, glove, and stick.

All you need is a swimsuit and towel!

When:
Tuesday nights, 8:00-9:30pm. 
Each 4-week course begins on first Tuesday of April, June and August of 2009.

Note: For August course, pool is closed August 25th.  Fourth week moved to September 1st.

Syllabus:

Week 1
  • Using the equipment
  • Basic rules of the game
  • Kicking fins and clearing snorkel
  • Duck dive and feet-first dive
  • Underwater turns
  • Try playing!
Week 2
  • Review diving and turning
  • Learn basic stick maneuvers.  tic-tacs, 8's, V's 
  • Flicking the puck
  • The 3-3 formation
  • Scrimmage!
Week 3
  • Review basic stick maneuvers
  • Learn back-edge stick moves. half-moon, reverse 8's, back-flick
  • Learn Zig-zag turns
  • Scrimmage!
Week 4
  • Review moves from weeks 2 & 3
  • Learn 3-player weave
  • Scrimmage!

Fee:
$40 for 4-week course
