The San Francisco Sea Lions Underwater Hockey Club is proud to announce the 3rd Annual San Francisco Regional Tournament, to be held on March 27 at the City College pool in San Francisco. This will be a potluck event and players of all experience and skill levels are encouraged to attend. This event is especially meant to give players with NO tournament experience the opportunity to play a whole day of high level games with outstanding teammates. On Tuesday, September 29th, 8pm-9:30pm, SDUHC will host a Tryout for the California Team Tournament in San Jose on November 7th. Rhett "Duke" Perkins will select a team of 12. All level players are welcome to attend the Tryout!!! A few spots on the team will be allocated for "development," so if you're new, please don't miss this opportunity to take your game to the next level. To tryout, no need to register, just show up ready to play and have your checkbook! After the tryout, no player will be accepted to the team without upfront payment for tournament registration. The California Team
Tournament will take place at the San Jose State University pool on Saturday November 7th. The pool time will start at 10am and run to around 8pm. Greg Appling has generously offered to host the banquet afterward. Please note this is NOT going to be a potluck tourney; it will be a competitive, California-only team tournament. Clubs can register multiple teams; however, registration will be capped at 6 teams. Team registration is estimated between $300 and $400 per team + banquet fees. All players should be currently living in California and should have practiced with the club they intend to represent. Non-Californians can play with a California club if he or she had previously been a member of that club. |

US Men's Team World’s 2010 Tryout Information: The 2010 WAA Underwater Hockey Championships will be held in the Medellin Colombia. Exact dates and venue are not available at this time. Projected dates are late July and early August of 2010. Tryouts for the 2010 US Men's Team are open to any male of any age. Each participant must have a complete set of gear as though you are playing at Worlds. This includes headgear, sticks and gloves. Head gear must be either black/blue or white. Yellow Colombian head gear will not be allowed. If you use wrestling headgear or something other than a polo cap where your hair is exposed you must wear a swim cap of appropriate color. Sticks must be solid in color. If a stick can be confused for the opposite color it will be removed from use for the remainder of the weekend. Gloves must be an opposing color to the stick and the puck. At this time the puck to be used has yet to be determined. As soon as it has been decided which puck will be used, we will announce it. The only exception to the gear requirement will be your suit which can be any color or pattern. Tryouts will be held at George Mason University on Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19. Tryouts begin at 8:00am Saturday and end at 5:00pm Sunday. The club at GMU has joined forces with the DC team to provide housing and transportation to and from the IAD and DCA airports. More information will come out as details are finalized. Approximately 16 players will be selected. This will now be known as the “Cut of 16” no matter what the final number is. The “approximately” wording is there in case it makes more sense to go with another number. Barring something extreme, no less than 15 and no more than 18 will be selected. Should something extreme occur, the 2010 US Men’s Selection Committee will meet to determine going with a larger or smaller number of participants. Selection will be based on fitness, skills, and game play exhibited at the tryouts. Past performances will not be considered. Should an injury occur which prevents participation for a player wishing to tryout that player must show up with a verifiable Doctor signed medical excuse and all other required paperwork, tryout fees, and deposit monies must be in. Should all the above be met, an exemption may be allowed for that player to come to the next team get-together where his skills will be evaluated and a determination will be made if they are up to team standards. Other exemptions, such as life altering events, will be dealt with on a case by case basis only if all required monies and paperwork are in. Cost of Tryout is $180 and includes the tryout, Hockey Development Fee, lunches, snacks and drinks at the pool for two days. Payment for the tryout ($180) must be received by, not “in the mail by”, June 7, 2009. Players making late payments will be required to pay an additional $15 for each week payment is late. Final cutoff date to make payment by mail is July 12, 2009. Anyone not making payment by the final cutoff date may at the discretion of the selection committee pay, IN CASH ONLY, the entry fee, all late payments, and a selection committee hassle charge of $25 for reorganizing the weekend in the last minutes. All money must be in the hands of one of the selection committee no later than the Friday Night prior to the tryout by 9pm. Follow the instructions and return by the due date located at the top of page one of the questionnaire. Cash or a check made out to USOA in the amount of $200 will be collected Saturday morning at 8am at the GMU Pool. Anyone not providing this check will not be selected for the team but may still participate in the tryout. This money will be the first of several deposit deadlines necessary for participation at World’s 2010. This $200 is not the tryout fee and is expressly for the use of USOA for payments made on your behalf toward the expenses of World’s Competition. Anyone failing to send in the Questionnaire by the deadline or turn in the deposit will be eliminated immediately without a refund of the entry fee. The deposit check will be returned Sunday after the tryout for those players not making the cut of 16. If selected for the team the deposit money will be turned over to USOA and is not refunded unless you get cut at a later date (see details on signature sheet).  A Regional Underwater Hockey Potluck Tournament in San Diego! What's a potluck tournament? A potluck is the perfect kind of tournament to make your first tournament. Everyone who signs up to play is randomly split into teams. Players label themselves as A, B, C, or Rookie, depending on their level, so that each team has roughly the same number of players from each level. No Worries?

The date for our first annual Women's Tournament is at San Jose State University in San Jose, California on May 2-3, 2009. All women hockey players are invited and encouraged to come (Yes, that means all you new players and those experienced players too). We're trying to keep the cost and time impact down for you, so we will try to accommodate our of town players at local players homes. Also, the tournament runs Saturday through Sunday, to be finished by 3pm Sunday so that those of you coming from out of town can get home at a reasonable time! Saturday morning we will host an INTERMEDIATE CLINIC for all those interested. It will cover some individual skills as well as a few multiplayer skills. It'll be a perfect time for newer players to pick up some new skills and some intermediate players to fine tune the skills you might know. Then Saturday noon to 6ish and all day Sunday, we'll run our POTLUCK TOURNAMENT. On Saturday evening plan on a GROUP DINNER with activities and awards of assorted categories. Let me know of any fun activities and/or awards you think we should include! Please send me your intention to participate ASAP, send me your travel itinerary ASAP so that I can organize transportation and housing for you, and send in your fees ASAP. Tournament fee is $60 per person if received before Apr 1, and $70 Apr 1- Apr 25. All players must be entered by Apr 25, so that we have time to put together the teams and schedule. Fees cover not just your pool fees (including the clinic) but the snack and lunch table goodies too. We plan to house as many of you as possible. All you need to pay for besides the tournament fee is any airfare, breakfasts, and dinners.
